Back Country Rebels Womens section

Is anyone interested in this? I'm not really but it sounds like they are looking for suggestions and they probably would be open to it if enough women chimed in and wanted it... it sounds like the creators of the site would rather have us ladies posting WITH them and didn't want to segregate us and possibly leave us out by shoving us into a corner... But if any of you ladies felt that the ladies section was a good thing i'm sure you can speak up on there and get it... I will be behind what any of you want on there and support it if it's what's going to make ladies feel welcome...

Forum: Sled Related

Riser craze

I know EVERYONE is all about risers... and to a degree I agree... however, just cause I was cheap I never went with very big risers. Actually i rode my 05 stock and my 07 is a tiny bit lower than stock, but i do move them to the fwd position.... interestingly enough brett rassmusen has some stuff to say about NOT going for the riser craze. Granted, that guy is TINY, but so are quite a few ladies.

For those of you who haven't seen it here; I interpreted brett as saying you can MOST DEFINETLY go too high with a riser. he said he rides with his in the LOWEST possible setting that Cat has. now, yes, he is short so for some of us taller girls that just won't work... BUT, his theory was that if the sled bucks on you and pulls you over to the downhill side you are VERY unlikely to get it back with the taller riser and it will pull all of your weight over with it making it IMPOSSIBLE to recover. with shorter bars you can still reach the bars if they buck over to the other side and YOU can stay on the uphill side of your sled....

interesting theory... don't mean to step on any toes of those in the riser camp. I myself pretty much get my mind made up by cost! but I thought I would through this out there for you all. (I will also mention that the newer sleds are already coming with fairly substantial risers while the older ones, yes, are built to ride when you're sitting so they might need a few inches even in brett's book... i have not talked to him personally about this. we chatted a bit at Puyallup but I hadn't watched his movie yet...

anyway, if any off you have sceen schooled, I'd be curious to hear you weigh in. I know risers are a HUGE hot button for the ladies and I'm not trying to start anything, just possibly sharing some info....

Forum: Maintenance, Modifications & Performance

Injured myself, getting bummed out

I don't know how I manage to injure myself so much, even doing stupid things. Yesterday I was moving hay around, and walked out of the hay shed. My beanie was kind of low and I forgot the back is too low to walk under and didn't see it. So I hit the top of my head hard, and it felt like two vertebrae in my spine compressed or something. It's the one that sticks out the most, at the very top of my back, and the lowest neck vertebrae. Felt like those two hit together or something, I blacked out but only for a second. Then sat down for a while I was almost sick. It did get better but today has been hurting a lot. If I touch between those two it hurts quite a bit more for a couple hours afterward. I'm freaking out a bit since it's almost time to start riding! The pain is now also worse down lower in a spot I hurt last year.

I'll probably have to go get an xray, but am freaked out about that as I have a ton of surgery bills and other medical bills I can't pay right now. But I'm worried about whether my spinal cord is being pinched and what would happen if I hurt it again... I just can't deal with any more hospital bills. I'm so mad at myself for getting hurt doing something stupid. I'm sick of being injured, I'm still recovering from kidney surgery and it hasn't even stopped hurting yet. I need a drink and I'm afraid to even drive to town since my truck is so bouncy.

Forum: Anything Off Topic

Foot Warmers

I've had several frostbites on my toes in the last several years. Last year I had a severe one that didn't quit hurting and heal until July- toes were still purple till then as well (frost bite in Dec.). Terrible blistering, turned black, etc. Now they're very sensitive to cold and get cold so much faster as I've had a lot of nerve damage in them. I don't really have a problem with my hands as long as I'm riding, I have great hand warmers! Have never frostbitten my fingers either. I think it's possible I have Reynaud's but haven't discussed with my doc yet. Either way I need foot warmers.

The chemical packs help, but if my feet sweat at all it kills them. My boots are pretty good, snowboard boots. I've tried every combo of socks and normally use a thin wicking liner under merino socks. Nothing really keeps them warm, they get cold in my house with the fire blazing. I feel them and they're ice cold, but I can't really tell till they start to hurt.

So, does anyone know of any great warmers? I've heard the heated socks pretty much suck, and they use tons of D or C batteries. Has anyone tried these? I know they're spendy, but I need something that will work. However, I don't want to buy them unless they WILL work. It would have to be one that charges faster, some of them take too long to charge.

http://cozywinters.com/hotronic/

http://cozywinters.com/therm-ic/

Forum: Snowmobiles, Products & Gear Discussions

My New Pink Jugs

Got these puppies in Spokane and I'm stoked, I hate bungies because I can never seem to keep em on, then if I get em on there good and tight and secure it is an absolute pain getting the can off. So voila I really dug this set up, plus it didn't hurt they had the pink jugs. It is the "track rack" from Mountain Addiction. They just slide on and slide off, minimal carnage to the tunnel on the install, which was good cuz I hate drilling holes in Stella. So anyways thought I would share these I just got em on tonight and I'm super excited. Sorry for the crap pic.. just from my cell...

Forum: Snowmobiles, Products & Gear Discussions

Do You Support Moving To A New Forum?

Although this has been a good little forum, our annual forum's visits are doubling (almost tripling depending on the month) and I dont feel that this forum is our best option. This forum gets more expensive as the visitors increase and I began pondering upgrading to a better, less costly site last year but stuck with donations made by many of you generous ladies. I had been breaking even but it's been a different story starting this October when our forum visits were double what they were last year during the ride month! I had to find another way to bring in a few dollars to cover the antisipated costs through the next few months. But realistically, the visits should keep increasing (which is a great thing for our little community) and I feel our best option would be to move to another forum. There is some hope in finding a forum that I can migrate members, posts, threads and pms too but there is a good chance that wont happen.

I have not brought this up seriously before because I know how this perturbs many people - especially with all the changing Snowest has been doing lately! But they are in the same boat just on a much larger scale and I quite honestly feel for them and am on board for whatever is best for them.

Our forum was also having issues last night and this morning - not sure why but it doesnt seem to be a constant thing and that sort of thing can happen with any forum so not sure we'll ever completely get away from those occurances but maybe they are less likely on other forums. I'll have to research that aspect more.

So, how opposed are you gals to upgrading to a new forum? We will end up with more features no matter where we go - some you'll really like but I am aware that there are a lot of bells and whistles you all wont care about. I realise that what's most inmportant is a fun, eye pleasing, easy to navigate, simple interface forum and I have found a few options but not sure if you girls are willing to take the plunge if it means loosing all our current threads and pm's and having to resign up on another forum.

The other option is to keep selling ad space. If you oppose switching forums, do you oppose having more ads appear as I need funs to cover costs? Of course that will only go sar because only so many are going to advertise with us. But, I can offer up smaller, less expensive block ad space on the sides that can be purchased in 6 or 12 month terms in addition to the larger monthly banners.

Also - I will be changing the name of the forum to Sled Betties but keep a section dedicated to annual ladies rides and/or other pertaining female sledding events and processes (like creating a all womens sled video). I really want to be inclusive of all female sledders even though we already are but the Ladies Ride does dominate the atmosphere.

Please vote in the poll and feel free to post comments.

Thank you girls!

Forum: Forum Information & Rules
